MEET THE COACHES

NYC Coach Katy Neefus
  • Katy has been the driving force behind the Norwell Youth Cheer program breathing new life into it after dormancy from Covid. Her tenure as coach has been marked by revitalization and rejuvenation, transforming the program into a vibrant and thriving community that now has a cheer cart!

Before stepping into her role as a coach, Katy honed her skills as a competitive cheerleader at Sandwich High School and was captain for both her Junior and Senior years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Bentley University and later an MBA from Seton Hall University.

With a solid educational foundation, Katy embarked on a successful career in the corporate world. Recognizing the need for meaningful change and a renewed sense of purpose, she transitioned to a role at NextUp, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing women in business and fostering inclusive workplaces. In her new role, Katy is at the forefront of a movement aimed at empowering women and driving positive change in the business world.

    COACHING PHILOSOPHY:

I am an energetic, dedicated and authentic coach! I love to push my athletes to be the very best that they can be.

Communication is key to fostering the teams growth. Success is not about winning but instilling confidence, resilience and purpose for the athletes. Above all, I want to instill a team approach so we all win together.

NYC Coach Nicole Mellor
  • Nicole's passion for cheerleading is unparalleled, stemming from her impressive background as a Boston College Eagles cheerleader and extensive experience in high school. Her knowledge and strong commitment to the sport make her the perfect mentor for our incoming 3rd graders.

NYC Coach Michelle Dobbins
  • Coach Michelle is in her second year as a coach with NYC. She cheered throughout her high school days, and although many years have passed, the memories still hold strong. Her favorite part of NYC is watching the program, as well as the kids, grow. In high school, Coach Michelle was the Captain of both Football and Hockey cheer in her Senior year. She coaches because she loves to see the excitement and joy it brings the kids. Coach Michelle believes that cheerleading is more than yelling on the sidelines; it is a social activity that builds teamwork and friendships, boosts kids' self-confidence, and develops leadership skills, all while having fun.

  • Marissa is a first year coach with NYC. Growing up, she was a competitive dancer and cheerleader for many years, learning so much more than routines and skills - discipline, teamwork, resilience, and confidence. Those experiences shaped who she is, and she is passionate about passing those same lessons on to the next generation.

Now, as a proud stay-at-home mom to two amazing daughters who are following in her footsteps, it means even more to be back in the cheer world — this time as a coach and mentor. Outside of cheer, she runs her sourdough business, Sweetspot Sourdough, which has been a rewarding creative outlet. Whether she’s in the kitchen baking or in the gym coaching, she puts her whole heart into everything she does. She believes in hard work, Faith, teamwork, and leaving a little bit of sparkle in everything you do!

  • Sofia is a high school student with over 10 years of experience in dance and gymnastics. She helped coach the Mites cheer team last year and loved working with the younger athletes. Sofia is excited to continue coaching and looks forward to helping the youngest cheerleaders learn the basics, build confidence, and have fun as they get started in cheer.
